Hiroshima Philosophy Café : How far does identity extend?

広島県
“You can feel safe when and where your identity is accepted. But if you don’t think your identity is accepted, you cannot feel safe”. This was a hypothesis that emerged in the most recent HPC held with the theme “What is it to feel safe?”

Having your identity accepted is a basic right for all. On the other hand, putting too much emphasis on identity can lead to self-absorbed behavior, and in extreme circumstances even war.

When do you become aware of your identity? When you live in a foreign country does the particular country and situation influence your identity? When do you feel it is not accepted? In this dialogue, we also want to explore “what identity means to you” and “conflict of identity”.
